I have a lot of mates that are in bands and are doing the gigs around town, trying to get a following. To actually make it within the music business seems near enough impossible ! A lot of it seems lucky (e.g Florence singing in the toilet to her prospective manager. ) It really got me thinking on how exactly does a rock and roll band get noticed ?
Firstly I understand that they have to have the tunes, and the tunes need to be relevant to today’s market. But how do these bands that break through manage to attract record labels attention ? is it a massive following before ( like the arctic monkeys), is it through pure persistence and not giving up ? Is location a big factor ?
There must be some kind of unofficial plan, or technique of getting attention from labels. Does anyone have any ideas ? I would love to hear them.
